EGNATIA BANK (ROMANIA). S.A., the local subsidiary of Egnatia Bank SA, estimates to reach in 2005 profits of EUR 1.5 million and total assets in amount of EUR 100 million. Furthermore, Egnatia Bank has planned for this year investments in amount of EUR 1,2 million, aiming at financing the development of the branch network and the implementation of the IT system. The Group supports the expansion of the Romanian subsidiary by providing the required financing via inter-bank lines, additional share capital increases if needed and guarantees. The net worth of Egnatia Romania, today, is approximately EUR 12 million. "In the five months of 2005 we obtained an operational profit of EUR 1 million while the assets reached around EUR 90 million, more than three times bigger than last year", stated for Ziarul Financiar Mr. Stylianos Sofianos, General Manager and President of the Board of the Bank. Mr. Sofianos has been appointed as General Manager of the Bank at the end of last year, replacing Mr Marinis Stratopoulos. Before joining Egnatia Bank (Romania) S.A., Mr. Sofianos held the position of Vice-President with Emporiki Bank Romania. Mr. Sofianos came in Romania 8 years ago, having the first contact with Romanian market as Deputy Manager in the local subsidiary of National Bank of Greece. As Mr. Sofianos stated "the Romanian market has a special potential. We registered a significant development within the last period and we will continue to grow. Our plans predict an organic development, but we are monitoring also the acquisition opportunities". In 2004, the Bank has registered a net profit of EUR 0,3 million, at the same level as in 2003, which was the first year with positive result since Egnatia has taken the Bank at the end of 2000 from BNP-Dresdner Bank. The Bank's development strategy foresees to obtain a market share of at least 1% from the point of view of owned assets for the next year. The Bank has a market share of approximately of 0,3% from the assets point of view. "We intend to reach an approximately 3% market share within the next 5 years, but will be different in case of any acquisition opportunities, which may appear", said Mr. Sofianos. The Bank is, presently, orientated mostly on the corporate segment, having granted loans in amount of EUR 45 million, the majority being denominated in FCY, but it started also a dynamic penetration in the retail market with a very advantageous real estate loan for individuals. Sofianos says that in the next year will focus more in the retail market, on which traditionally the mother bank developed. Therefore, the Bank plans to open in the following 2 years 8 new units. Egnatia holds in Romania also a leasing company, which has financed contracts of EUR 20 million. Sofianos says that the leasing company has financed mostly the acquisition of commercial vehicles, but started in 2005 the financing of other equipment and real estate, since the company registers a fast growing rhythm. We believe that the flexibility of our Bank and Leasing Company can adjust to the Romanian market and can be a useful tool both for companies and private individuals, Sofianos said.
